Magazine Cover Analysis

This is another Empire magazine. In contrast to the other Empire magazine, the main image of the magazine is taken from the film instead of a specifically shot photo, however it uses a binary-opposite. The dark background mirrors the darkness of the film and the use of the green is eye-catching to get the readers hooked. Also not so much in 'The Dark Knight' but in the older Batman films the iconic colour of The Joker is green so batman 'fanatics' will realise this and they are the people who are more likely to be reading film magazines.

We really like how the joker's head is covering the 'empire' title, making it look like he is in control, we are thinking of using something like this for our cover.

This magazine issue of Total Film is not how it would normally look, they've changed it to look like its part of the film 'Inception'. The 'Total Film' is normally in just white font. However for this issue they've changed it so it looks more like the film, the colour blue fits Inception because in all the dvd covers and film poster this is the colour they've used so fans of the film will see this and recognise the familiarity. Much like Empire the main in the centre of the magazine is the main character of the film, making him a focus point. The picture is taken directly from the film, being different to many still shots that are often used for marketing purposes. Important side headings stand out against the blue, which draw's attention to other things in the magazine to show it is not entirely 'inception' focused.

Again, we really like to actor placed over the title, alongside making the whole cover fit with the theme of our trailer.

Sight and Sound is very different to Empire and Total Film. Its more for the die hard movie fans as it looks towards the background of the films and the actors, however it follows the main conventions of any magazine. TH=he name of the magazine stands out above the main star unlike the empire cover. The only thing it doesn't have is sub stories like Empire& Total Film, it is much more focused on the main star in the middle.

When it comes to doing our magazine we are going to stay more to the much more commercial Empire and Total Film side rather then Sight and Sound.

Again like the other Total Film magazine, it follows the style of the film, again changing the title to fit with the films 'theme'. Orange is the main colour of the dvd covers and poster, creating a brand image for the whole marketing package. The other stories in the magazine are also made to stand out, again showing viewers they are versatile with the stories they cover. Unlike Sight and Sound this magazine offers side stories instead of just the one main one.

We really like the idea of changing the title to fit with our film, making it a unique issue of the magazine.
